Australia’s only annual festival of design returns in 2005 bigger and better than ever with a new name.
9th international design festival: 6 – 21 August, 2005
More days filled with inspiring events, and an expansion into the greater west.
Over 16 days and with more than 50 events across 24 venues throughout the city and out to Parramatta, Sydney Design 05 will explore and celebrate international and national design across a broad range of disciplines – from art, architecture and interiors; furniture, lighting and other product design; to graphic, fashion or digital design. From exhibitions and isplays, markets and awards, to lectures, forums, masterclasses, workshops and tours.
This year’s program features extraordinary design talent, from the up-and-coming to international design superstars. Multimedia whiz and 2004 UK Designer of the Year Daniel Brown and Paul Simmons of hot Glasgow design studio Timorous Beasties will participate in Sydney Design 05 alongside local talent including acclaimed design partnership Korban/Flaubert, fashion designer Alex Zabotto-Bentley, award-winning design groups Blue Sky Creative and Design Resource, and emerging industrial designer Andy Wana, amongst many others.
Program highlights include exhibitions and displays such as Sydney designers unplugged, Young Designer of the Year Award and Morris & Co at the Powerhouse Museum, the lighting installation Coralscapes by Ruth McDermott at Object Gallery, intricate jewellery and metalware at Vessel in Pyrmont, and contemporary furniture design at workshopped 05 in The Strand Arcade.
Join architectural talks and tours throughout city, discover ‘houses of the future’ at Sydney Olympic Park or discuss and debate the future of urban design and planning with leading architects and industry professionals. Explore the impact of surf culture on design at the hip after hours venue dfactory, sample the latest original designs at the inaugural Young blood: designers market, or learn more about the industry as leading design schools throw open their doors.
